Allied Minds Partners with the University of Florida
16-Nov-2009
Boston, Massachusetts - Allied Minds is pleased to announce the addition of the University of Florida to our partner network. The University of Florida is the top performing single public institution at transferring its research to the marketplace, according to the Milken Institute. The university receives more than $565 million in annual research funds, generates an average of 300 new inventions per year, and consistently ranks among the top-10 universities in executed licenses and options. Some of the best known royalty and licensing deals have been concluded at UF, including the glaucoma drug Trusopt, the sports drink Gatorade, and the Sentricon termite elimination system.
The University of Florida has a strong life sciences focus, and its Health Science Center (HSC) is the only academic health center in the U.S. with six health-related colleges located on a single, contiguous campus. Furthermore, the McKnight Brain Institute is one of the world’s largest research institutions devoted to the challenges resulting from brain and nervous system disorders. In addition to its life sciences research, the university excels in space sciences, as well as in food and agriculture sciences. “The University of Florida is prolific in developing cutting-edge research, and we are excited to partner with them to bring their innovations to the market,” said Chris Silva, CEO of Allied Minds.
“We believe this partnership will significantly enhance our ability to launch more technology-based start-up companies at UF and ultimately enable us to get more discoveries into the marketplace,” said David Day, director of the Office of Technology Licensing.
With the addition of Florida, our network now stands at 30 leading U.S. research universities and three national laboratories, for a total of 33 partners. Together, our partner network leverages $17 billion in federal, state and industry R&D funding and provides us access to more than 71,000 university scientists and 21,000 national lab staff.
