Allied Minds and the University of California at Irvine have teamed up to establish SoundCure. The new company is charged with developing and commercializing an acoustic therapy for the treatment of tinnitus (ringing in the ear).

Tinnitus is a debilitating disease that affects an estimated 262 million people worldwide. While tinnitus may affect anyone, it is more common with increasing age and among people who work in noisy environments.

The technology leverages the research first pioneered by doctors Fan-Gang Zeng and Qing Tang at UC Irvine. After years of research in brain function and the auditory cortex, Dr. Fan-Gang Zeng, discovered a relation between certain tones and the therapeutic effects in patients suffering from tinnitus.
