Future Goals

A number of exciting applications can benefit from our technology including: food safety, agriculture, various residential uses; soil sterilization including but not limited to the replacement of methyl bromide; wastewater treatment; phyto-sanitization of wood for export; medical sterilization; an alternative to pasteurization; and as an anti-bioterrorism measure, among others.

Food Safety

Food safety is the cornerstone which launched the development of RF Biocidics. Ensuring the safety of our food supply has grown more challenging every day. Our RF based technology has been proven to work with an assortment of food products such as nuts, almonds, grains as well as highly processed foods such as fishmeal, salsa, and fruit juices. Other applications are being developed.

Agriculture

On modern farms today the use of pesticides has expanded to include treating soils and irrigation water. RF Biocidics has shown efficacy in these agricultural applications as well. Pre-harvest, our RF technology can control pests, such as nematodes, root destroying fungi and improve the germination of seeds.

Wastewater

Beyond farms RF technology can be integrated into city water treatment plants to disinfect wastewater before being released into the oceans and waterways. RF Biocidics has a demonstrable advantage by killing pathogens with greater efficiency thereby using lower concentrations of chemicals like chlorine.

Wood Products

Wood can harbor many of today’s most destructive pests from termites and carpenter ants to borer beetles. These insects destroy the wood from the inside out. But burrowing insects cannot hide from our RF technology. The penetrating RF waves can destroy pests that hide deep within the wood and has been shown to effectively treat pallets, and small furniture

Pasteurization

Developed in 1862, pasteurization is a well established technology to control microbes. However the energy used to heat the liquid is expensive and getting more costly with rising energy prices. Our RF technology selectively heats microbes and pests with minimal heating of the liquid itself. The RF waves deliver more energy directly at the pests while passing harmlessly through the host liquid. The result is effective pathogen control with less wasted heat and its natural flavors intact.

We see many potential applications for our RF technology but we believe the spectrum can be broadened in future generations. We are actively developing RF technology to address perishable foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables. Product development is underway now and we expect to be able to introduce this line by 2010.
