Technology

Cephalogics is developing a new imaging system with improved performance characteristics that permits use of high-density, diffuse optical imaging arrays for functional hemodynamic imaging in humans. The core technology is termed diffuse optical tomography (DOT) and is an imaging methodology that can be used for mapping functional activity in the human brain. Functional imaging enables the processing of information by centers in the brain to be visualized directly. Such processing causes the involved area of the brain to increase blood flow and metabolism and "light up" on the scan. Cephalogics has also developed signal processing algorithms that make use of the dense spatial sampling to isolate the functional activation signals in neuroimaging applications. In order to take full advantage of the capabilities of DOT, dense arrays of optodes (source and detector locations) that yield many overlapping measurements are necessary.
